Blackwood is buzzing with the news that the '09 Yarra Junction Fiddler's Convention has been moved to Blackwood due to ongoing concerns with the Victorian Bushfires.

On Valentines weekend the conventions organiser, Ken McMaster, advised that the annual Fiddler's Convention would be re-located to the Blackwood Mineral Springs and Caravan Park site at Blackwood.

Bluegrass and Ol’ Timey musicians will camp for the weekend to catch up with friends, play music and enjoys dances and performances for three days from 20th to 22nd Feb 2009.

Businesses in Blackwood have spent the week fielding phone enquiries & gearing up for an influx of hundreds of people due to begin arriving from March 19th for a weekend of picking.

BLACKWOOD POST OFFICE LOCATION CONFIRMED...

I received this email from Australia Posts Communications Adviser today ...

In relation to change of premises and new licensee taking over the Blackwood Post Office:
The Blackwood General Store will cease operating as a licensed post office on Thursday 31 July 2008. From Friday 1 August the Blackwood Licensed Post Office will be operated from a room at the rear of the Blackwood Hotel opposite the General Store. Access will be via the side door. The post office room is to the left immediately inside the door, so customers will not have to enter the main bar, or any other part of the hotel to get access to postal services.
All existing services will be available at the new location including post office boxes and over-the-counter mail collection. The hours of business will be 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am until 12 noon on Saturday.
We are very pleased that we’ve been able to find suitable licensees and premises to ensure that the Blackwood community will be able to continue to enjoy access to post office services locally.
